March 2026
A personal message from Dr. Hubbel:
Early March marks 66 years since I arrived in Cobourg and started this Chiropractic practice. Early March also marks 90 years since I arrived… in Hastings weighing about eight pounds. It seems an opportune time to make some major changes. Therefore, Thursday March 5 will be my last official day in the office. Yes, it is time for early retirement. We thought about it last year in March, but it just seemed too soon. Now, it just seems a little foolish to be 90 years old and still showing up at the office on a regular basis.
Of course this was a very difficult decision, as you can well imagine. Even though the past few years have been only a couple of days each week, it was still an involvement in the practice: Now it will be no real involvement. I realize that with both Dr Johnston and Dr Leguard actively caring for all my patients, I will definitely not be needed… but that does not mean you should not miss me… and definitely not forget me!
I can honestly say that I have enjoyed all of those sixty-six years. The early years were a struggle, and the in-between years were challenging but rewarding. The later years have been more relaxing but still enjoyable as we continued to help our many patients live healthier, more comfortable lives.
Regular chiropractic care for myself and my family has helped to keep us healthy, and I feel fortunate to have not missed one day at the office because of sickness over those sixty-six years.
Of course I will miss most, all those smiling faces that I have come to know not only as patients, but as friends. While I have hopefully been helpful to you, our relationship over the years has been mutually beneficial, as simply watching so many of you regain your health and more importantly, maintain good health has kept me focused all these years. A couple of ladies I still see periodically, first came to the downtown office 65 years ago.
I am confident that all patients attending this office will continue to receive the care that you have come to expect. Both Chiropractors taking over are very well trained and both have the same caring attitude that I have tried to foster. Up to date education and new technology help them provide the care you deserve.
Life goes on as they say, and I am sure it will go on fine for me. If you see me aimlessly wandering the streets looking lost and without purpose, please stop and say hello. I hope I will remember your name, but I will certainly remember your story.
Not to be forgotten is the contribution made by Karen Murray! Karen has been with me for over 34 years, as she joined us when we were on Third Street, and was full time for many years. Karen has shared many changes over those years, and she remembers most of the patients we saw together. She has stayed with me as our hours were reduced, mainly because she enjoys the personal contact with so many patients she knows, as well as making a major contribution toward improving the wellbeing of all our patients. You may see Karen helping out in the future on a part time basis, as she still enjoys dealing with health-conscious people.
Also not to be forgotten are all the other present and previous staff members who have made our lives better. No chiropractor can provide expert service without the assistance of great staff, and I have had the greatest!
